Total Decom 2019 provided a unique perspective on the important issues, developments, themes and lessons relating to decommissioning from across the globe. Eminent speakers from the Far East, Europe and the UK came together to highlight the scale of international decommissioning activity, experience and opportunity in the fields of nuclear, offshore oil and gas and defence. Presentation: Effects on the Community of Decom Sites - an International Perspective
In the session on decommissioning activity in the Far East a speaker from Korea presented Korea’s plans and policies as their nuclear fleet enters the decommissioning phase; Naoto Yagi from Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) reported on progress on the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi; and Roger Cowton from Sellafield described the cooperation agreement between Sellafield and Tepco designed to support delivery of decommissioning activities at Sellafield and Fukushima Daiichi.

Presentation: An overview of the Berkeley, Chapelcross and Dounreay projects
Dave is a Chartered Engineer and MSP Practitioner who has worked in the nuclear industry for almost 40 years. He started his career as a Metallurgist involved in the construction of Heysham 2 and Torness power stations then moved into decommissioning and waste management working for Northern Engineering Industries (NEI), Rolls-Royce and Mitsui Babcock.
In 2006 Dave joined Studsvik and worked on a variety of projects including the transport and treatment of Berkeley Boilers.
Dave joined LLWR in 2014 as Programme Manager for the Repository Development Programme and left in 2017 to support Cyclife deliver the Chapelcross Gas Ducts project. As Technical Manager for Cyclife UK Ltd he has recently worked on the Dounreay Optimised Metals Project involving the first consignment of large components from the Dounreay site under the LLWR Framework.

Presentation: Challenge Presented in Decommissioning Camp Bastion
Clive will talk about decommissioning Camp Bastion in a tight 9-month timescale, the challenges this presented, and the skills needed for this, or any large programme of decommissioning work.
Camp Bastion was the British Armed Forces main base in Afghanistan. A town the size of Reading, it became synonymous with the fight against the Taliban. When the decision was taken to withdraw troops from the base a programme of work to decommission Camp Bastion was implemented. WYG project managed this decommissioning - from helping to assess the future use (or disposal) of every single item to planning and implementing the resulting actions.

Presentation: The Power of partnerships: the key to overcoming complex and uncertain job scopes
Aecom a premier fully integrated infrastructure firm and AWE PLC have signed a contract naming Aecom as the delivery partner for it’s Nuclear Capability Project. The scope of the contract includes the Decommissioning and Demolition of the current facilities, the completion of new facilities and the management and transportation of material across the site. The project has a potential expenditure of approximately £360m, expected to span at least 12 years.
